Bomb blast in Spanish city
A bodyguard was injured in a car bomb explosion in Bilbao in Spain’s Basque region today.
The device went off under the car of the man, who was protecting a local council member.
While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, attention immediately focused on the separatist group Eta, which resumed full-scale attacks in August after calling off a cease-fire.
The police official said he did not know if there was a warning call before the blast – Eta often phones in warnings – or who the bodyguard was protecting.
Many public figures in the Basque region use bodyguards to protect against Eta attacks.
