Turkish shops bomb kills one

One person has died after two bombs exploded outside a shopping mall in the western Turkish city of Izmir today.

The first bomb injured 10 people including one who lost his leg and arm.

Hours later, the second exploded at the same site, killing one person and injuring eight more people and shattering windows in houses, shops and vehicles

“That bomb was apparently placed under the seat of a motorcycle,” Defence Minister Vecdi Gonul said.

“The first impression of the police is that both bombs are apparently similar and are plastic explosives.”

“We condemn this attack with hatred.”

Separatist Kurdish rebels carried out a bomb attack at a market in Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city, in May, injuring several people.

Kurdish, Islamic and leftist militants are active in Turkey, but no-one has yet claimed responsibility for bombings.
