Russia’s parliament overwhelmingly approved Viktor Zubkov as prime minister today, and President Vladimir Putin said he was among at least five people who could hope to succeed him next year.

Zubkov, a Putin loyalist who ran Russia’s anti-money-laundering office for six years, had been relatively unknown before he was nominated on Wednesday in a surprise move by Putin.
