Two scuba divers were rescued after more then nine hours in the sea off the coast of Wales.

The men, who had been diving about two miles south off Grassholm Island, around 11 miles off the Pembrokeshire coast in west Wales, were winched to safety by helicopter at around 10.15pm yesterday.

They had been diving off a vessel called Annie since 1pm and were last seen at 2.30pm when they surfaced. After they dived again they failed to resurface.

Two lifeboat crews scrambled along with a helicopter 40 minutes after the men were last seen.

Later a helicopter from Ireland joined in with the search, located the men and winched them to safety before taking them to hospital.

A spokeswoman said: “The men are obviously cold but they are both alive.”
