Suicide car bomber strikes Shiite district

A suicide car bomber struck Baghdad’s Shiite district of Sadr City today, killing at least nine people and wounding 15, police and hospital officials said.

Iraqi police fired at the attacker after he refused to stop at a checkpoint, but he managed to detonate his explosives, the officials said. The attack left at least nine people dead and 15 wounded, and many cars and shops were damaged, the officials said.
