22 killed in Kenya oil tanker crash

At least 22 people were killed and more than 30 injured in Kenya when an oil tanker parked at a refuelling stop rolled down a hill and smashed into four minibuses, police said today.

The tanker’s driver stopped to refuel yesterday when the vehicle started rolling back, Police Chief Grace Kaindi said in Kisii, some 165 miles west of the capital Nairobi.

Hospitals were treating 33 people and the death toll was expected to rise.

“We cannot proportion the blame for the accident on anybody until investigations are complete,” Kaindi said.
