2007 Nobel prizes to be announced in October
Announcements of the winners of this year’s Nobel Prizes will start on October 8 with the award in medicine or physiology, the Nobel Foundation said in Sweden today.
The physics prize will be presented on Oct 9, followed by the chemistry award the following day.
The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on October 12, the foundation said. That award is always presented in Oslo, Norway, according to the will of prize founder Alfred Nobel. The other awards are announced in Stockholm, Sweden.
The 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, the only award that was not established in Nobel’s will, will be announced on October 15, the Nobel Foundation said.
The announcement of the Nobel Prize in literature will be determined at a later date by the secretive Swedish Academy in Stockholm.
All the awards are handed out on December 10 to mark the anniversary of Nobel’s death in 1896.
The first prizes were awarded in 1901.
