Heinz Barth, a former Nazi SS officer who was convicted of involvement in a massacre of French villagers in 1944, has died, a priest in the German town where he lived said today. He was 86.

Heinz Barth, a former Nazi SS officer who was convicted of involvement in a massacre of French villagers in 1944, has died, a priest in the German town where he lived said today. He was 86.

Barth died of cancer in the past few days, said Heinz-Dieter Schmidtke, the parish priest in Gransee, north of Berlin. He could not provide the exact date of his death and also did not say where he died.
