Palestinian president to meet Putin in Moscow

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was due to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin for talks today, as he tries to secure stronger support for his government amid the continuing stand-off with Hamas.

Yesterday, Mr Abbas received a notable vote of confidence from Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who told the Palestinian president that Russia considered him “the lawful leader” of the entire Palestinian people.
