A large explosion went off near Islamabad’s Red Mosque today, officials said.

A large explosion went off near Islamabad’s Red Mosque today, officials said.

Local media reported several people died.

The explosion happened at a market area about quarter of a mile from the mosque, where religious students clashed earlier in the day with security forces.

Ambulances were rushing to the scene of the explosion. Police said they were investigating.

Dawn News TV reported that seven people had died.

Islamabad police said four people had been confirmed killed and 30 injured in the blast at a hotel about a quarter of a mile from the mosque.
