Blair sets up meeting with Abbas

New Mideast peace envoy Tony Blair will hold his first meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday, a Palestinian official said.

The meeting will take place at Abbas’ headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said.

Blair and Abbas have met in the past, during Blair’s term as prime minister.

Last week, Blair made his debut as the envoy of the so-called Quartet of Mideast mediators – the US, the EU, the UN and Russia.

Blair is expected to arrive in the region tomorrow for a two-day visit, and has also scheduled talks with Israeli leaders.
