Former French Premier may be charged in alleged smear scandal

Investigating judges expect to file preliminary charges against former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin over an alleged smear scandal targeting President Nicolas Sarkozy, Villepin’s office said today.

Villepin has been summoned for questioning later this month by investigating judges, “who expect to file preliminary charges against him,” his office said in a statement.
