UN suspends Gaza building projects

UN construction work in Gaza has stopped on all building projects because of a shortage of materials in the Mideast.

“Some £46million worth of projects are on hold because cement and other building supplies have run out,” John Ging, the director of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, said in a statement.

“This is all vital humanitarian work, including repair of dilapidated and damaged shelters of about 16,000 refugees currently living in appalling conditions.”

Ging urged that all crossings into Gaza to be reopened. Passages were shut tight after Hamas militants seized control of Gaza one month ago.
