Minor injuries in third running of the bulls
The third Pamplona running of the bulls saw only minor injuries in Spain today as six massive bulls galloped after crowds down packed, narrow streets.
Despite the size of the animals, only seven people were taken to hospital, a local government statement said.
Six Spaniards and one 30-year-old American runner – who injured an elbow – were treated.
The bulls completed the famous 930-yard route from a corral on the outskirts of town to Pamplona’s central bullring in a fast 2 minutes 46 seconds.
Though several runners fell directly in the path of the bulls at a bend in the route known to aficionados as “where Mercaderes and Estafeta streets meet” the animals jumped over them amid screams from the crowd. A crush was somehow avoided.
Pamplona annually sees its population of 200,000 swell during the San Fermin festival. About 800,000 visitors attended over the weekend, local government spokesman Patxi Cervantes said.
