Eight Swedes questioned in child porn crackdown

Swedish police today questioned eight suspects in a crackdown on child pornography, officials said.

Police raided eight locations in different parts of the country and seized the men's computers, said police spokesman Anders Ahlqvist.

The men, identified only as Swedish nationals in their 40s, were released after questioning but remain suspects.

Seven of them confessed to some of the allegations, Ahlqvist said.

"They are suspected of having films and pictures, but we don't know until we've looked through the hard drives," he said.

The operation was not connected to the international bust of a global internet paedophile ring that British authorities announced yesterday, he said.

It was too early to tell, however, whether the Swedish suspects had international links.
