11 killed in eastern Germany crash

A bus veered off a road and fell into a roadside ditch in eastern Germany today, killing 11 people, police said.

Police spokesman Ralf Moritz said 31 other people were injured in the accident near Halle, in Saxony-Anhalt state.

The bus was carrying a group of senior citizens from north-western Germany.

There was no immediate word on what caused the accident, which occurred at about 1.45pm (12.45pm Irish time).
