Merkel outlines goals for EU summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was going before parliament in Berlin today to outline her goals for next week's European Union summit amid strife over the bloc's new constitution.

The June 21-22 summit marks the end of the German presidency of the EU, and Ms Merkel is expected to push hard for agreement on how to proceed with the constitution, which was rejected by French and Dutch voters in 2005 referenda.
