Afghan violence worsening: Red Cross

The situation for civilians in Afghanistan is worse now than it was a year ago, a senior international Red Cross official said today.

Pierre Kraehenbuehl, the ICRC’s director of operations, said fighting between the Afghan army supported by international forces and armed opposition groups had significantly intensified in the South and East of the country since 2006.
