German chancellor Angela Merkel today said the Group of Eight had agreed on a plan calling for "substantial cuts" to greenhouse gas emissions.

The goal is to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2050, Merkel said in Heiligendamm, hailing the decision as a "huge success," adding that it came after many rounds of talks and negotiations on climate change.
