European Union defence ministers today agreed on the need to break down national barriers in the EU arms market, open up cross-border investment and reduce Europe’s reliance on US military imports.

“We need fundamental change in how we manage the business aspects of defence in Europe,” the ministers said in strategy paper designed to spur development of the EU’s defence industry.
