Madeleine sighting a false alarm

Portuguese police following up on a reported sighting of a girl matching the description of Madeleine McCann have called the report a false alarm.

Road blocks were set up in the town of Nelas, north of Praia de Luz where there was a reported sighting of a young girl matching the description of missing British toddler Madeleine McCann.

The girl was seen being pushed along by a 'balding man with a ponytail' in a supermarket, reports say the child was reluctant but not crying out.

It was also reported that the two were not speaking Portuguese.
