UK diplomat meets Palestinian PM over kidnapped journalist
A senior British diplomat today met with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to discuss the fate of a BBC journalist kidnapped by Palestinian militants.
Richard Makepeace, the UK consul general in Jerusalem, had requested the meeting.
A senior British diplomat said the meeting was only discuss only the matter of kidnapped journalist Alan Johnston, and did not signify a break in Britain’s boycott of Haniyeh’s Hamas party. The two men also met last month.
Mr Johnston, a BBC correspondent from Argyllshire, was abducted by gunmen on March 12 and has not been seen or heard from since then.
