Gun suicide bid fails outside Indian PM's residence
A man shot himself in a failed suicide attempt near the Indian prime minister’s residence today, prompting a brief scare in a heavily guarded part of New Delhi.
Depender Pathak, chief spokesman of New Delhi police, said there had not been any threat to India’s leader, who was away from home at the time of the shooting.
Police identified the man who shot himself in the chest as Kishori Lal, a New Delhi property agent.
A suicide note said he was unhappy with his wife’s love affair , Pathak said.
Lal shot himself in the car, stopped it and then sat on a pavement, the spokesman said. A passer-by saw him bleeding and alerted police who took him to a hospital where his condition was stable, Pathak told The Associated Press.
Police found a revolver and cash in his car, Pathak said.
“This has nothing whatsoever to do with the prime minister, it was just on the road outside his house, near the Jaipur Polo Ground,” said Rajan Bhagat, another police official.
