Support for New Labour Party hits new low

The opinion poll rating of the Labour Party in Britain has fallen to its lowest level since Tony Blair became leader 13 years ago, according to a new survey.

The Populus poll for The Times newspaper put Labour on 29% - one point down on last month.

It shows support for the party falling to a level last seen when Michael Foot was leader in the 1980s.

The Conservative Party, who also dropped one point, maintain their eight-point lead over Labour on 37%, while the Liberal Democrats are up two points on 20%.

The poll also found that 73% believed that the British sailors and marines captured by the Iranians should not have been allowed to sell their stories to the media.

Populus interviewed 1,503 adults aged 18 and over by telephone between April 13 and 15.
