A train travelling from Paris to Madrid with nearly 300 people on board collided with a car stuck on the tracks today.

The train derailed slightly, and the collision ignited a fire, but no-one was hurt, police said.

The train collided with the car just outside the northern Spanish city of Valladolid. The car's driver had been trying to negotiate a crossing with barriers when his vehicle became stuck on the lines, the city's police said.

The driver managed to get out of the car, and the train dragged the vehicle 700 metres. Both the car and the locomotive caught fire, and two of the wheels on the train's engine car derailed.
