Sri Lankan soldiers killed 23 Tamil Tiger rebels during fighting in eastern Sri Lanka, the military announced today.

The battle erupted while the soldiers were on an operation in Unnichchai village in the Batticaloa district, said military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe.
