Germany: Woman shot dead at airport

A man shot dead a woman waiting to check in for a flight at Stuttgart airport early today, German police said.

The woman was standing in a queue at the airport’s terminal 3 – apparently for a flight to Pristina, in Kosovo – when the man fired several shots at her, police in nearby Esslingen said.

The woman died of her injuries at the scene. A young man standing nearby was grazed in the hip by one of the shots, but was not seriously injured.

The gunman tried to flee but was quickly arrested in an airport car park, police said, adding that they believed the gunman and the victim – both thought to be of ethnic Albanian origin – knew each other.
