Sri Lankan government troops have driven Tamil rebels from a key base in eastern Sri Lanka, the Defence Ministry said today.

Military forces suffered no casualties in the assault late yesterday on the Kokkadicholai base.

The rebels retreated, leaving behind an arsenal of weapons, said Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe.

“We have captured the Kokkadicholai base of the Tigers,” Samarasinghe said.
