EU agrees on plan to battle global warming
The European Union has reached a deal on “ambitious and credible” targets to tackle climate change and energy needs, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today after a Brussels summit of EU leaders.
“We have time still to reduce global warming to below 2 degrees,” Ms Merkel said as she announced the plan that would require greenhouse gas emissions to be cut by at least 20% from 1990 levels by 2020 and ensure 20% of its power comes from renewable energy.
