Three people were reported to have been killed as cyclonic winds and rain ripped across Australia’s north-western coast today, tearing roofs from houses in remote towns and laying waste to at least one mining camp.

Three people were reported to have been killed as cyclonic winds and rain ripped across Australia’s north-western coast today, tearing roofs from houses in remote towns and laying waste to at least one mining camp.

Several isolated communities in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region were cut off by air and road, and communications were limited as Cyclone George swirled inland near the town of Port Hedland overnight.
