Chirac 'unlikely to seek reelection'

French President Jacques Chirac will address the nation on Sunday evening in a speech in which he is likely to announce he will not stand for re-election next month.

Mr Chirac’s office today announced that he would make a speech on state television and radio at 8pm local time (7pm Irish time) on Sunday. It did not give any details on what Mr Chirac would say.
