Attacks intensify during Iraqi security crackdown

US General David Petraeus today said that insurgents in Iraq had sought to intensify attacks during a security crackdown in Baghdad.

Petraeus, the new commander of US forces of Iraq, said the backlash had come since US and Iraqi forces began the security sweep three weeks ago.
