Rescuers continued their search for survivors today after three separate landslides killed 40 people on a remote eastern Indonesian island, with scores of people believed to be buried under the mud.

Authorities on Flores battled blocked roads to deliver emergency aid to the affected districts and help dig for survivors, said the chief of the health authority’s Crisis Centre Rustam Pakaya.
