Former New York Times reporter to testify at CIA leak trial

Prosecutors in the CIA leak trial will call former New York Times reporter Judith Miller to the stand in the US today.

It’s the first time Miller will publicly testify against former vice presidential aide Lewis Libby since she went to jail to protect him as a source.

Libby is accused of perjury and obstruction for lying about conversations he had with journalists about outed CIA operative Valerie Plame.

Prosecutors in Washington say Libby discussed Plame with Miller and her notes are expected to be submitted as evidence.

Miller’s credibility will likely become an issue in cross-examination. Defence lawyers say she was inconsistent in her statements during her grand jury testimony.

Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is expected to call on two other reporters during the trial: NBC’s Tim Russert and Time magazine’s Matthew Cooper.
