US Marine killed in Iraq fighting
A US Marine was today killed in fighting in a volatile Iraqi province west of Baghdad.
The US military said the Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 6 died from wounds sustained due to enemy action while operating in Anbar province, a Sunni insurgent stronghold that extends from the capital to the borders with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
The Marine’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.
The death raises to at least 3,070 members of the US military who have died since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
