Massive brawl in Taiwan legislature
A Taiwanese politician threw a shoe at the Legislature’s speaker today as the final day of the legislative session dissolved amid massive pushing and shoving.
The Legislature was discussing an opposition proposal to change the composition of the Central Election Commission when dozens of ruling Democratic Progressive Party lawmakers stormed the speaker’s dais to try and prevent the proposal from moving ahead.
DPP member Wang Shu-huei flung a shoe at the speaker, but it hit a politician standing next to him in the face, cable TV stations showed.
Taiwan’s Legislature has a reputation for violent incidents and mass fights between members.
