Student killed in school shooting

A student in Tacoma, Washington, USA, was shot dead in a high-school hallway as classes were starting this morning, and police were searching for the gunman, officials said.

The student’s age and details of the shooting were not immediately released, but police spokesman Mark Fulghum said a male student was killed in the shooting around 7.30am local time in a hallway of Foss High School. No one else was believed to be injured.

Police were searching for a gunman, believed to be another student who ran from the school after the shooting, Fulghum said.

It was the first day back for Foss students after the winter break.

Classes were cancelled for the rest of the day and students waited outside to be loaded on to buses, school-district spokeswoman Patty Holmgren said.
