Communications cut as quake strikes Taiwan
Telephone and internet services were disrupted across Asia today, hours after a powerful earthquake struck the southern part of Taiwan, killing two and triggering a regional tsunami alert.
The 6.7 magnitude quake hit just offshore near the town of Hengchun late last night, on the second anniversary of the devastating tsunami that took more than 230,000 lives in a dozen countries from the Indonesian archipelago to east Africa.
