Police arrested a 37-year-old man – named by sources as Tom Stephens – at his home in Trimley St Martin, Suffolk, on Monday.

Twenty-four hours later, they arrested a 48-year-old man – named by friends as Steve Wright – at his home in Ipswich.

Police can hold Mr Stephens until tomorrow and hold Mr Wright until Saturday.

Senior detectives and a representative of the Crown Prosecution Service will make an announcement at a media conference at Suffolk police headquarters near Ipswich later tonight.

Five Ipswich prostitutes – Gemma Adams, 25, Tania Nicol, 19, Anneli Alderton, 24, Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29 – were found dead near villages south of Ipswich during a 10-day period earlier this month.

The two men under arrest were both arrested on suspicion of murdering all five women.
