A roadside blast killed one Nato soldier and wounded two others in eastern Afghanistan, a statement from the alliance said today.

The explosion occurred in the Mehtar Lam district of the eastern Laghman province on Friday while the troops were conducting an operation, the statement said.

The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a Nato hospital for treatment.

The statement did not identify the nationalities of the dead and wounded soldiers. Most Nato troops in the country's east are American.

Separately today, a Nato soldier was wounded when he stepped on a landmine while conducting a foot patrol with Afghan forces 15 miles west of Kandahar city, said the International Security Assistance Force. No one else was injured.
