Government forces backed by Ethiopian troops have clashed for a second day with Islamic militiamen near a village in southern Somalia, officials said.

An Islamic courts official said yesterday that the government had launched a counterattack at Rama'addey village, while prime minister Ali Mohamed Gedi claimed that Islamic militiamen had attacked government positions.
