Scaramella discharged from hospital

The Italian academic who met Alexander Litvinenko on the day he was allegedly poisoned has been discharged from hospital, it was disclosed today.

Mario Scaramella had been receiving treatment at University College Hospital in London after testing positive for the same deadly radioactive toxin that is thought to have killed Mr Litvinenko.

A hospital spokesman said today that Mr Scaramella had been discharged and that he was showing no symptoms of radiation poisoning.

Mr Scaramella met Mr Litvinenko at the Itsu sushi restaurant in Piccadilly on November 1. The Health Protection Agency confirmed earlier today that all the restaurant staff had tested negative for radiation.
