An explosion ripped through two carriages of a passenger train in eastern India today, killing five people and injuring at least 50, police said.

The explosion occurred near Belacoba train station, about 350 miles north of Kolkata, capital West Bengal state, said Inspector General of Police Raj Kanojia.
