UN official meets Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi

A top UN official held a rare meeting with detained Nobel laureate and pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi today during a mission to press Burma's military junta to promote democracy and human rights, officials said.

Suu Kyi was escorted from her lakeside compound in a four-car convoy to a nearby government guesthouse for talks with UN Under-secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari, said officials.
