Iraq's prime minister today said the verdict in Saddam Hussein's first trial would be handed down on Sunday and that he hoped the former leader would be given "what he deserves".

Iraq's prime minister today said the verdict in Saddam Hussein's first trial would be handed down on Sunday and that he hoped the former leader would be given "what he deserves".

Nouri Maliki, who said last month that he hoped Saddam would be hanged, made the remarks after a meeting with tribal leaders from the restive southern city of Amarah.
