Three killed in explosion at Romanian refinery

An explosion today at a refinery in north-east Romania left three workers dead.

The blast at the RAFO refinery in Onesti was probably caused by an accumulation of methane gas, said Col. Mihai Simionescu, who heads the local emergency department.

The section of the refinery where the blast occurred was closed for maintenance.

The explosion caused a metal roof to collapse onto the three workers, killing them, he said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
