US soldier killed in Iraq

An American soldier was killed in fighting in Anbar province, a key insurgent stronghold, the US military announced today.

The soldier died yesterday, meaning that 104 American service members were killed in combat in October, the fourth deadliest month since Iraq was invaded by the US-led coalition March 2003.
