Israeli president refuses to resign

A defiant Israeli President Moshe Katsav has dismissed a call to step down in the wake of a rape allegation.

Although Attorney General Meni Mazuz’s recommendation yesterday cannot force Katsav from office, it adds an influential voice to the growing chorus of officials who have called for the president to resign.
