California braced for hurricane

Tropical Storm Paul gained hurricane strength off Mexico's west coast today and is threatening southern Baja California, the US National Hurricane Centre in Miami said.

The Mexican government issued a hurricane watch along the Baja California peninsula from Cabo San Lucas on the southern tip northwards to Agua Blanca and across to La Paz on the east coast.
