Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was admitted to hospital today after experiencing a sudden drop in blood pressure, news reports said.

The prime minister was taken to hospital after he had difficulty opening a car door, private CNN-Turk and NTV television reported.

CNN-Turk said Erdogan was seen by a cardiologist and was in stable condition.

His spokesman Akif Beki said there was no need for alarm.
